Medical programmes in Romania

Romanian medical universities run several programmes open to international students. Each one complies with the European directives, which means the qualification lets you practise in any EU member state.

General medicine (Doctor-Medic)

The general medicine programme runs for six years and leads to the Doctor-Medic degree, automatically recognised throughout the European Union (Directive 2005/36/EC, annex V.1).

Core years (years 1–3)

• Basic sciences (anatomy, physiology, biochemistry)
• Introduction to clinical practice
• Medical Romanian

Clinical years (years 4–5)

• Hospital rotations across all specialties
• Semiology, pathology
• Clinical practice in Romanian

Internship year (year 6)

• Rotating internship
• Final-year thesis

Dentistry

The dentistry programme runs for six years and trains dental surgeons qualified to practise anywhere in the EU.

Pharmacy

The pharmacy programme runs for five years and leads to the title of pharmacist.

Language streams

The language of instruction depends on the programme and the university: a faculty may teach medicine in French but not dentistry, or pharmacy in French but not in English.
